
Why we put our bathroom heaters through hell before they reach you
Bathrooms are absolute nightmares for heating elements. Think about it: you’ve got thick steam, direct splashes of water, and temperatures that swing from freezing to boiling in minutes. The “Damp-Heat” torture test
We don’t just plug a heater in and say, “Looks good!” That’s how things break. Instead, we put our infrared heaters through what we call damp-heat aging. Basically, we trap them in a chamber of extreme humidity and high heat for hundreds of hours. We’re trying to find the exact moment the quartz glass seals give up or the electrical contacts fail. Here’s what happens if a seal fails: moisture hits the tungsten filament. It oxidizes almost instantly. The filament gets thin, creates a nasty hot spot, and then—snap. By forcing that failure to happen in our lab, we can be sure it won’t happen in your shower.
The balancing act
Getting a true IP65 rating is a bit of a tightrope walk. To keep water out, you need a rock-solid seal between the lamp and the housing. We use reinforced connectors and specific gaskets to nail this. But there’s a catch. If we make the seal too tight, we trap too much heat around the base. If we overdo it, the connector housing can actually overheat and melt the wiring. It’s a constant balance between keeping the water out and letting the heat breathe.
What this means for your setup
When you’re picking a replacement element, that IP rating is the only thing standing between you and a dangerous ground fault in a wet room. Our tests prove these elements won’t just degrade and quit after six months of steam. You get a part that drops right in and keeps its power without risking a short circuit.
