Making Bathrooms Actually Feel Warm
Nobody likes that sudden chill when you step out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system, and honestly, it ruins the whole mood. We fix this using shortwave infrared (SWIR) tech. Most heaters try to warm up the air in the room. The problem? That heat just floats up to the ceiling while you’re still shivering. SWIR is different. It doesn’t care about the air. It sends energy directly to you. You feel the warmth the second you turn it on. No waiting. No shivering. The secret is in the wavelength. Because the radiation penetrates deeper into your skin and the surfaces around you, it works almost instantly. We’ve tuned these units to hit full power in seconds. It turns a cold changing area into a cozy space before you’ve even grabbed your towel. The tricky part: Putting heat behind a mirror. Integrating these into a mirror isn’t as simple as just plugging them in. We use low-profile quartz tubes, but since bathrooms are basically steam rooms, we have to be careful. We use specialized seals to keep moisture out of the electrical parts. If we didn’t, the units would just burn out. Then there’s the glass. If you push too much heat into a small spot, the mirror can actually crack from the stress. We spend a lot of time calibrating the output. The goal is to keep the glass warm enough to stop it from fogging up, but not so hot that it melts the adhesive holding the mirror to the wall. A few things to watch out for during install. Installing these is pretty straightforward—they basically drop right into where a standard heater would go. But there are two things that can trip you up. First, these heaters are directional. If the angle is off, the heat misses the person. You lose that luxury, “five-star hotel” feeling if you’re standing two inches outside the heat beam. Second, these lamps are power-hungry. You can’t just use any old wire. If your wiring gauge is too thin, you’ll get a voltage drop, and your heater will just feel lukewarm. Make sure your electrical setup can handle the peak load, or you’re wasting your time.
